Team Primal Force at the Races!

Congrats to Rose and Lee.  Took me forever to find the race results, listed at Hi-Tek.  Rose ran 28:22, Lee a 24:08, from the picture take looks like everyone had a great time.

Mary and Lani ran 4.something on Saturday @the Brickyard, Mary now has a Garmin!!!

Today was the Litchfied Hills Tri for me, (Lani).  I am no swift triathlete, but very happy about the improvements over last year.  I think I was 206/214 finishers last year, dead last in my age division (but not dead - and that's an import ant thing when it comes to tris!).  This year, thanks to some swim tips from Lynne Cox I took 15 minutes (!!)  off my swim time.  The bike was not too fast due to a mechanical problem and torrential downpour.  Not exactly sure what's going on with the bike- the back wheel was scraping and all out of alignment, it's at the shop now because it's not exactly rideable. It seemed a little precarious to be riding with mechanical issues on crazy downhills in the rain, but I survived. And in the last leg, I took 14 minutes off the 10K run, for a 56:50 in the rain, not sure what that pace would be. I was still wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy down at the bottom of my age division but I sure am enjoying this new challenge.  My NYC marathon training program called for a 13 miler today, so I went to the gym and did 7 miles on the treadmill in the afternoon as I had enough of being out in the rain.

Rose is running the Old Wethersfield 5 K next weekend, Mary and I are planning to run in Farmington.  Not sure what Lee has planned.

I hope we will all be together in New Haven on the 6th, and plans seem to be shaping up for MDI.

Have a great week running and crosstraining.

Lee, thanks for the comment. I think it's a result of x-training w/ hrt rate monitor- can do higher volume of zone training without stress + injury

Lani's midweek update- Thanks Lee for Torrington 5 miler update! Good luck to all on this weekend's races. Reg. 4 Hartford- Oct would not be right with no 26.2:

The Benefits Of Biking

I rode about 20 miles to Reservoir #3 and back this morning.

Riding a bike is a great alternative to running and is fitting in well with my current situation (left ankle can't handle more than at most 1 or 2 runs per week). I find it's much easier on my ankle than running. During my rides I sometimes stand up on the pedals, take my butt off the seat and crank away for about a minute at a pretty good clip. It's a bit like running!

Sea Legs Shuffle

It was a great day for running in Guilford, missed Lee and Rose. Lee is reportedly returning from NY soon, he has been doing a lot of biking lately. Rose is back in the US after her trip to Italy, she was able to put in some good miles to burn off all the delicious pasta and bread she had on the trip.

It was in the high 40's when I left Granby for the race, so I dressed in a nice warm long sleeve shirt, only to find it was about 75 and humid down at the shore by race time. Ooops. My goal was just to run a nice steady pace, which I did- was able to hold onto an 8:30-ish pace on a fairly hilly course so I was quite happy with that. During the race, I saw Kathy Scotti who I know from the hospital, as well as one of the radiologists. After the race, I finally met up with the team. Dave and Barbara made it down for the race as well. It was nice to see everyone out there, and I look forward to seeing the whole group together in New Haven on Labor Day.

As far as the future races, not really sure yet about the Torrington 5 miler this weekend, my NYC training program calls for a 12 miler that day. Still on the fence about Hartford Marathon/Half Marathon...

Mary and I are planning to run again on Saturday, a few easy miles. Maybe we'll see some of the group there.

Hope all the Brickyarders have a great week--Lani
