4 around the 4th

Brent, Sri and I ran the 4 around the 4th today in Northampton. A guy I also know, Patrick Pezzati and his speedy son Gram ran. Bob Dacey ran too. Everyone just named placed and got $15 and $20 gift certs to the Northampton Running company which was right across from the start. Sri ran 28:30 and said his slowest ever at this race was a 27 something 7 years ago ... so he was disappointed. Imagine being disappointed w/ a 28:30. Brent was too with a 29 something. He wanted sub-28. One unfortunate thing: 2 people took a wrong turn early in the race and about 18 others followed them. They were all disqualified (and *very* disappointed). Their misstep helped the rest of us place. Chris Dickerson and Jeff (don't know last name) made the right call and the results (which for a while we thought might not even take place) include only those who ran the course. Lee ran 33:55 (8:24 pace). Decent hill from mile .5 to mile 1.5, another one a bit later. Awesome downhill at the end.

Tomorrow

What I know:

Mike'll run 5 and will start at 7 AM.

He and my friend Wanda will NOT be tripping on roots, rocks etc. as they tackle the 14.1 mile Nipmuck South Trail Race on Sunday.

Lea'll run 13 and I'm not sure when she'll start but given the heat and distance (but dislike for Early Birditude) not to mention the companionship might find 7 AM a good start time too.

Brent and Lee'll be AWOL but racing in Northampton. However, for anybody that needs a Brickyard Sunday fix. they'll both be there at 6:30 AM.

Ultragirl failed to drop anybody although she tried but got stood up. That'll teach her, picking on 16-year-olds. Lea has her equal in the sweaty mess division it appears; she has been logging respectable albeit moist workouts. Jamaica agrees with her and her boys. Sorry Sri but those of us that wanted to see what she looks like win.

Marathon Plan

Tray used this some time back. Lea's in the initial weeks of Hartford full training and is using a Hal Higdon plan. Tray and I are running Newport in October. I'm going to use the Break 4 or Bust plan again. I'm starting at the Thursday of the 3rd week (day off). If you're going to do a Fall marathon and don't have one firmed up yet, come to Newport and join us! Sunday October  13th!  The day after Hartford.

Summer Solstice Aka Call To Brickyard

Since I've established myself TSTC (Tray-Start-Time-Challenged) I won't state when she'll start; she'll start when she starts and will be at the parking lot to greet others when they arrive. I know Mr. Brent is talking 18 miles and that sounds good to me too and I'd say 7 AM at the latest for our start would work. I'm going longish today thru the Quarry and Meadows in Wethersfield so I plan to be pretty "loose" by Saturday morning.

Happy First Day of Summer Everybody. It's Linda's birthday today, it's the longest day of the year and tomorrow I hope to see All Brickyarders, short, tall, slow, fast, big and small.

One More Mile

I'm sure you all have heard of this company and probably seen at least a few of these shirts / sayings and I promise I won't make a habit of this but every single one of these is great in my book!

Junk mail

Sorry about all the junk mail that's recently been coming in. I may have to go back to a moderated blog. Since I'm mostly the only one who posts on it this might be the best thing to do.

Life Without Limits 5K

Wanda and I ran this 5K at 8 AM in Manchester this morning. It was the 3rd annual and raised money for United Cerebral Palsy. Beautiful course which included hills and bike paths. We weren't super speedy but were fast enough to place 2nd and 1st in our divisions. Wanda's Mom Jane and Wanda's kids Seth and Hailey cheered us on. The weather was a 10. We had lunch after at Wanda's ... salad, iced tea and bread from the Manchester Great Harvest Bread Company.

Re: [Brickyarders] Call to Brickyard!

There is another Hartford Track member interested in running at Brickyard on Saturdays. His name is Alex Cabrera. He ran with us at Lime Rock last week. He's from Bristol and we run similar routes at 5am. He is fast. Came in 3rd in his age group at Lime Rock. He is also very active on Facebook.

Lime Rock Half, Lake Compounce and Celebrate West Hartford 5K

From Mike:

Very hilly course. First half gradual up hill and obviously down hill second half. First and last 1.5 miles are on the race track. My time was 2:03 and Lea was right behind me at 2:04.

Lee, on the other hand, did not run today.

And last, but definitely not least, Brent absolutely
crushed the 5K. Check this out.
