This Thanksgiving weekend

Adam's running Big Gary's Turkey Trot 4.5 mile in Franklin, CT
Lani's running Malibu Fitness in Farmington ( with her Mom :-) )
Dave and Barbara are running Malibu too.
Lee's running the Turkey Trot in Barton, VT (5k)
Lindsey's nursing a hip flexor ( overzealous on Saturday w/ a hill she spotted  :-( ). Taking to the pool.

Everybody else is either slackin' and/or eating turkey.

Here's a fun puzzle for your Thanksgiving break.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody. Be thankful to be running, alive, among friends.

Double Dipper

Our very own Tracy was the 1st woman overall at the Wallingford Turkey Trot this afternoon and was 1st in her division (obviously!).

Larry Regan was 6th overall with a time of 35:45.

Lee placed 1st in his division with a time of 42:52.

Plus, he got a turkey!

It was bitter cold and extremely windy. The 5 mile course has a mile flat stretch, a right turn and then about a mile and a half gradual up up up. Then a 180 turn and a mile and a half down down down parallel section. Left turn and back to the start. Food was great, per usual. Don't look for results on the internet. They do it the old fashioned way.

BTW,  Janit Romayko, pictured above, ran the 5K that Adam did yesterday, another race this morning somewhere at 11 AM and then this one. And, won a turkey. She's in Debticonn and has about 140 towns done. She's a mere 67.

Adam's group: Debticonn

Adam posted this on Facebook. His group has evolved into a 100+ member society of dedicated runners. Their goal: Do Every Blessed Town In Connecticut. The idea has become so big timing companies have established races in towns that never had a race just so they can reach this ambitious goal. They have meetings, their own shirt (see below) and drive lots of miles to get to each venue. This is a life-long goal. I wonder how big they'll be in 2020?

"Today I ran the Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm 5K in Sterling, CT. My time was 24:14 or 7:49 M. I came in 13th place out of 85. Most of the race was on dirt road, so my time was little slower than my normal pace. This was first ever road race in Sterling. This race was organized by First-Mile at the request of my running group Debticonn."

Mike and Lani medal (actually glass)

Mike placed for the first time in a race. Lani placed. And volunteered. Lea volunteered and then ran 14 at Brickyard. Tracy and Lee each ran 6. Lindsey ran 11. Here are some pix of the HTC 8K XC race today.

Call to Brickyard!

Let's see ... there's a race in Wallingford at 1 on Sunday which Tray and Lee are doing. She won't be at Brickyard on Saturday. Lee's going to "double" and run Brickyard at 7 AM starting at the regular parking lot. Lindsey's going 11 at Brickyard so she'll have some company. Adam's running a race in Sterling, CT. Sterling is more than an hour drive. So he won't make Brickyard.

Slacker. :-)

Lea's going bananas @ work these days. I think a good Brickyard run is just what she needs but ... Anyway, hang in there Lea.

Mike's doing the 8K Cross Country Challenge in the Reservoir #3 area on Saturday, an HTC classic. Watch your step and beware of leaves, rocks, roots etc. Enjoy.

Not sure about anybody else. Come if you can.

Philly!

Lani and Tracy completed the Philadelphia marathon today. I think Kate Stoker makes it a point to always be where Tracy is :) . I don't think she ran it today.

Nice going Lani and Tracy! Well done!

Call to Brickyard!

Brrrrrrrr.

Looks like there'll be a few hearty souls that'll make it tomorrow morning at 7 AM at the regular Brickyard parking lot. Mike will have about 7 done by the time he rolls in (he's running from home). Lee's planning on showing up @ 6:30 to get a slowish 3 in before Lindsey rolls in to do her 6 @ 9 minute pace. Mike, Lindsey and Lee will head out together and after Lindsey's got her 6 in Mike and Lee will (probably slow down and) complete 20.

Ultragirl has had a rough week w/ logeyitis, new pains in I can't remember where etc. etc. but since we're all sending out positive, healing vibes (if you have not started ... the time is now) she and Lani will head out for the Philly full. Have a good one. Help each other.

Rose and Lee did the Scottish Rite 5K course today (well, he cannot lie, they cheated a bit and eliminated the Apple Hill loop). Lindsey asked Lee if I knew any hilly routes in the area. He mentioned this course and Reservoir #3. I think the Brickyarders should go to these places and do our workout. This will show her how to get there and will mix it up a bit.

Lea's working 300 hour weeks and taking Patrick out for a birthday celebration. I kinda forget what Lea looks like :)

Oh, Mike turned 60 today. That's almost dead in dog years.

Adam in the news!

Adam Osmond of Farmington (L) congratulates his friend Charlie Merlis (R) of West Hartford after he crossed the finish line at the 14th Annual East Windsor Veterans Day 5k Race on Saturday November 9, 2013. Osmond and Merlis are members of the Run 169 Town Society whose goal is to run a road race in every town in Connecticut. Over 300 runners from across the state braved the chilly air and challenged themselves in the annual race. (Jared Ramsdell / Journal Inquirer)

Welcome Lindsey!

On a crisp, cold, beautiful morning, most of us did 9, some did less, some did more. Lindsey Gendall joined us. She's training for the Napa Valley Marathon in March (which Wanda has run). Adam peeled off after about 2 miles in to complete about 4 and then head out to the 5K in East Windsor (which Rose has done). Tray wanted 13 or so so she kept going and Mike and Lee and Lindsey headed home. Mike did 3 before we all started so he did a total of about 12.

We averaged about 10 minutes miles, about a minute slower than Lindsey had in mind. I think Tracy and she could have left Mike and Lee in the dust but they were kind and didn't :). I asked Lindsey (who has never run a marathon) what time she had in mind and her "3:47" made me realize she is a disciplined runner with a specific plan and goal. She's using Hal Higdon's plan.

Caught this picture as we were coming back. Almost didn't get the balloon. Mr Mike flanked by Purple Peeps. Priceless.

Call to Brickyard!

7 AM old parking lot
for all who can make it. Tracy, Mike and I are coming and I hope others can make it. Lindsey Gedall has been in touch and is looking forward to joining us. She's training for a marathon (not sure which one) and is planning to run 9 miles at around an 8:40 to 9:00 min pace. That distance and pace sounds about right for all the above I think. I'm getting over a cold and have not run for days. Let's hope tomorrow helps to suck it out of me!

Sri!

Sri nailed it. A totally flat-paced just under 8 minute pace marathon. He wanted 3:30. He got 3:28:46. Wow! How many people can plow thru 48000 others like that?

Ghost Run

Don't have the results yet but here's what we did as close as I can determine. Tracy, once again, PRd, big time. 1:46:11. The mile markers were way off and she was ready to accept "a mere" sub-1:50 but beat her last year's time by a lot. This course is NOT FLAT. Adam is on a roll too. I think he got 1:53. He wanted anything sub-2 and his ultimate goal was 1:50. I'd say he nailed it. I, on the other hand, got beat by every friend I have ... Carina, Catherine, Sam, Jo, Bill, Donna, Karen and the list list goes on! I did a 2:05. Why am I so happy?! (Linda answered this: "Cause it's a beautiful day and ur with friends." Wanda came back with "Great. Now get some rest and enjoy the rest of this beautiful day.")

And Tracy's talking Brickyarders Party! I'll let her tell you more.

The weekend

Yet another quiet Saturday on the Brickyard front. Mike's got 20 planned somewhere local, Lea's not going to be there, Adam, Tray and Lee are doing Ghost Run at 9 AM. Honorary Brickyarder Sri is running New York Sunday morning. Told me he's looking for 3:30. Have not heard from anybody else.

Upcoming races to consider :  Wallingford Turkey Trot on November 24th and Tinsel Fun Run on December 7 in Berlin. These races are near and dear to BQ Baby as she got her first Turkey and first Santa at them if I recall correctly.

November is Brickyarder Baby month: Mike'll turn the big 6-0 on the 15th and we already know about Tray, Rose and Wanda (see previous post).

Don't forget to turn your clocks back 1 hour tomorrow night.

Great weekend everyone.

Lee

Oh, more November news: Lani and Tracy are running 26.2 in Philly on the 17th.
