Here are a couple of pictures Linda took at last weekend's Mikey's Place race.
Tray, Brent, and Lee are registered for the upcoming Kiwanis Turkey Trot in Wallingford. November 21. 5 Mile or 5K. Here's a link

While Chip Bradley (aka Brickyarders East) is running the BayState Half, Lee, Brent, (you?) are running Mikey's Place 5K in Wethersfield.

Lori Riley does it again. A brilliantly researched article about Patti Dillon that appeared in today's Hartford Courant.
The Salisbury Beast is on October 24, a Sunday. 5K. It will be my 160th Connecticut town. It's called Salisbury Beast for a reason. In the 1.5 mile climb on the way out you climb 1000 feet.
From their website we read: Connecticut's most monstrous 5k! Climb 1000 ft in 1.5 miles, enjoy one of the state's most stunning views and haul ass back down for a PR you'll never forget!
So, for you math people, what's that in slope, or grade? I think Mt. Washington is an 11% grade. The Beast is steeper.
If the hypotenuse is 1.5 miles and you rise 1000', to get the slope you need to consult Dr. Pythagoras.
(1.5 * 5280)^2 = 1000^2 + x^2
So, x = square root of ((1.5 * 5280)^2 - 1000^2) = 7856.61
and slope = rise over run = 1000 / 7856.61 = .127 or almost a 13% grade.
Summary: The Beast is slightly steeper than Mt. Washington (but don't forget, it's way shorter and ... what goes up must come down).
There's talk that Lani, Barbara, and Lee are considering doing this together and switching the Brickyard run from Sunday to Saturday that weekend. Tray and Jason?
In a 14-year period our very own Tracy Zagata has been unable to beat a gal I know (Diane Snow) at the Southington Apple Harvest 5 miler. This year was different.
