Call to all Brickyarders
Put October 23 on your calendars. This is the day we'll be celebrating Eddie Gorecki's Memorial Bench. A dedication at 9 will be preceded by a 4 mile run at 8 am.
Best of luck to all who are preparing for Hartford!
Rose, Lee and Lani will be heading up to Maine on Friday, October 15 and we'll be running the MDI marathon relay on the 17th. After that, I'm going to change the name of this blog to Brickyarders and we can use it (as we have been) as a place to post news on where we are running and how we did.

Hogsback II
Later this afternoon, I made it out for another run to complete the day's miles (also quite pitiful), but I had some time to think about our PW's:
Many people would consider a trip to the store for a carton of cigarettes, beer, and Dorito's a good Saturday's workout!
This is where we have a chance to influence others in a positive way and bring some good into the world.
Although "personal worsts" seemed to be the theme for the day, I am still proud that none of us actually did quit, and we are a positive example for our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, ect.
Keep running strong, Brickyarders! Especially Rose, with those sub 7 min miles she will have little competition at the fall races!
Hogsback Half
Hogsback Half Marathon - September 25, 2010
It was hot! 94 runners signed up. Kelsey, Lee and Lani had PWs but Ms Famiglietti (see below) outdid everybody!
Rose and Lee at the lake
Rose finishing. Note the time (and she stopped at mile 11 for a long champagne break). This works out to 6:41 pace, a personal record, a course record, and a record that will go down in running history. Please go here for complete (and accurate ...) results :)
Lee finishing
Rose, Lani and Kelsey
Peter Hawley doing results
Rick Tillotson and his dog. Rick will be running the MDI marathon on Oct. 17. He has run every MDI marathon.

My brother arrived at the 10K finish line about 2 minutes before I did at the Fall Distance Frolic. It took me about 53 minutes (8:27 pace). Kelsey made it to Brickyard on Saturday (as did I) which was a surprise cuz I thought I was the only crazy one to assume you could run 7 on Saturday and then a race on Sunday but he didn't run Stratford after all (alarm clock busted?). The race started quite early (7:30 or so) so maybe crawling out of bed at 5 am didn't work for him. In any case, we missed him and will have to catch up at Hogsback.
Lani, you're downright awesome. 18+ pre-Hartford/Maine/NYC is impressive. You rock girl.
Although 3/4 of the people in the below pic are not Brickyarders, the shot is too good not to insert here. Taken by yours truly, I tried to rise to LBrad status with this one. Speaking of LBrad (that would be my wife not myself despite the fact that we share the same abbreviated name) at her request I've changed the little "logo" picture I use for her to a cropped image taken from the Eddie's bench shot that Condit took the other day.

Final note: Paula and Joe were spotted at Brickyard on Saturday. They are off to San Francisco and then Hawaii in a couple of weeks for 10 days. Although Linda (and I) don't know Paula ("Florida Bound") well, when she learned they'll be going to Hawaii decided she "hated them a lot" ;)
Oh yeah, saw Dave Poppel at Brickyard and joined him briefly in a run. He was completing 18 and was clearly Hartford-full bound. He reports that he and his son Josiah will be running the Farmington Rotary 5K in Unionville next week.
Finally finally, LindaZ ran with us at Brickyard! She has put October 23 on her calendar and plans to join us on the day we've set to dedicate Eddie's bench. More coming on this.

And then there were 11!
Rose and Barbara finishing up at Brickyard
We had a great showing this morning at Brickyard. Dave, Barbara, Lani, Lee, Linda, Carol, Patty, Ken, Melody, Kelsey and Rose came. We did 8+. Eddie's bench flowers got watered and the polyurethane will have to wait a few days as it should be done when not so many people are there (who might think sitting on it would be nice and then find they're stuck to it!). Dave mentioned a Wednesday evening race at Rentschler Field that he'll be doing - 2010 Pratt & Whitney Runway Run & Walk to Benefit the United Way -Wednesday, September 22, 2010 @ 5:15 PM - Rentschler Field - 615 Silver Lane East Hartford, CT. Lee and his brother Chip will be doing the 10K and Kelsey the 20K next Sunday at Short Beach in Stratford (Fall Frolic). The day before (Saturday) all Brickyarders are invited to run Brickyard. Linda Z. will be joining us. As we are entering the cooler days, the start time is moved to 8:00 am! (I can hear Mary, who couldn't make it this morning cuz she's moving, say "yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!")
It was great to meet Melody! Hogsback Half was discussed during the run and also at Starbucks and, although it struck Melody as a bit early and maybe a bit longer than she was planning to run (her New Hamphire 1/2 is in November) Rose, Kelsey, Lani and Lee (who are all running it) hope she comes and runs. Maybe not all but, then again, shoot high and maybe you'll surprise yourself. We all hope you had fun with us and are very pleased you came.

Call to Brickyarders
I'll be carrying a can of polyurethane and a brush and will put a first coat on Eddie's bench after our run. Hope your New Haven race legs have rested by then and that you can join us at 7:30 am (note the time Mary!).
Upcoming race to consider: Marty Schaivone's Fall Distance Frolic on September 19th in Stratford (Short Beach). 10K or 20K or 30K (do the loop once, twice or thrice). My brother and I will be doing the 10K. "Awesome water views, flat & very little traffic in Lordship." This race starts at "Brickyard time", that is, 7:30 am.

Surfing the Farmington River
My friend Joan and I paddled for over 2 hrs this afternoon. It's an awesome upper body, lower body, core, and of course balance workout...but after two hours I'll be the runner unable to move her arms in New Haven tomorrow!

Ex pro track runner joins Brickyarders
Mary and Lani met for a couple of NHRR warm up miles @the Brickyard and were joined by Benjamin, who raced under the name DNJ Ready to Roll in Hinsdale, NH. Now enjoying his retirement with Lani, Peter, and Sage cattledog he has joined the Brickyarders. When asked about the run, his only comment was, "Woof."
