Race Days!

Best of runs for all Brickyarders this weekend. Brent will be running the 38th Annual Jones Group Realtors 10 Mile Road Race in Amherst, MA on Sunday. Mike will be running the Hyannis Half Marathon on Sunday. Tray, Rose, Lea, Abby and Lee are running the Colchester Half Marathon at 10 AM this morning.

Welcome Abby!

(The image has nothing to do with the title. See the PS at the bottom.)

Six of us rolled into Brickyard this morning in the following order: Lee, Mike, Abby, Judi, Tray and Brent. As Brent *totally* screwed up on the heavily publicized start time, Lee had the brilliant idea we run North and then loop back so we could meet him back at the parking lot but when we got back to the lot all we found was his car. No Brent. So we spent the better part of the day wondering when we might see him.

But before I waste too much time on this mixup, Mike, Abby, Judi, Tray and I ran together. Turns out Abby lives in the house Judi and Paul built some twenty years ago, in Burlington. Amazing! While Rose and Linda knocked off about 5 miles in Wethersfield (definitely the longest walk Linda's done in a looooong time), we talked about the non-storm, how to find people who like to run trails, the upcoming Colchester 1/2 etc. Mike is still babying a sore knee which appears to be getting better. Abby, Judi and he turned around after about 3 and Tray and Lee continued on.

We finally found Brent about 8 miles out. Brentless running did have its plusses (how much of a slavedriver he is as a boss could freely be discussed, how much of a Luddite the guy is (no email in the office) etc.) However, gotta give the guy credit; he made us look kinda bad at one point, purposely splitting off to the right of the trail just so he could do hurdles over the fence.

He also met Tray's challenge; he patiently waited for us to do a full 18 (he ran a mere 17) and then did 16 push-ups after Tray did 21 (and Lee a pathetic 13). I think Brent's push-ups were closer to the ground at their low point than hers. Then they shifted into crunch mode. Brent's crunches were not quite up to her standards so she had to demonstrate how they were done. He then executed quite a few really good ones.

So ... another fine day at Brickyard. We averaged a tad over 10 minute pace for 18 miles. The last mile was just sub-9.

Lee

Call to Brickyard!

There's a rumor floating around that it's going to start snowing tonight. It's about time! 7:30 AM tomorrow morning, Brickyard. Might have to make some adjustments but for now ... let's give it a shot. "Easy 18" for Tray and Lee. Apply Rose's formula to whatever she says she'll do. Mr. Stratton has been curiously silent but I expect he'll warm up for his push-ups w/ 18 as well.

A Stellar Day for All

What a wonderful morning at Brickyard! Welcome back Lee and Mike! It was so nice to run with you guys again.

So, if I got everyone's mileage correctly, Rose and Mike ran 14.5 (Mike's longest run since Dec.!), Lee ran 15, and I ran 23 (and did 20 push-ups at the end just for fun).

But the big news is....

BRENT NOT ONLY RAN THE LONGEST RUN IN HIS LIFE, HE BROKE 20 MILES!!!! I THINK HE CLOCKED 20.6.

He subsequently told me that he is completely hooked on long distance running and may bag his planned race on April 29th to run the 50 mile ultra with Lee and me. :)

Re: [Brickyarders] Ultra Fever

Glad you like the book, Lee.  Probably best that you didn't read it regularly during your recuperation.  I find books like this one to be so motivating that I want to go out and run right away.  So it would have probably made your waiting time seem even longer.

Oh, got an email from Mari yesterday.  She's nursing a knee injury but hopes to be back in full force this Spring.  She says "hi" to everyone.

Tray gave me this book a month or so ago and I love it. I'm not too far into it yet ... have picked it up and put it down a couple of times. Very inspiring. Sometimes really funny. Sometimes really sad. I won't give it away but the guy writes incredibly well, and, the latest thing I learned, quit running for quite a long time and then got back into it in a very intense way. Highly recommend it.

I ran 10 this morning. More like slow jogged 10. Was spozed to do 4 yesterday and 6 speed work today but combined the 2 and didn't run fast at all. Getting back into it and loving it. I thought you might want to see what kind of craziness Tray and I are immersed in. Here's the Training Plan.

Mike, Rose and Brent have talked about running 1 or 2 loops (7.6 miles per loop) on April 29th to give us company and encouragement. That would be AWESOME.

As for this Saturday ... Tray's doing ... ready for this ... 22. I've got 15 in mind. Rose told me she wants to do 13. The start time is a little tricky to call on this cuz there are so many different goals, distances, interests etc. Tray has told me she wants to start @ 7:30. Rose likes 8:30. Maybe the best way to go with this is if you want to show up early maybe rig it so you loop back to join those who want to come later. I'm planning on splitting the difference and will start at 8:00 AM. So ... to be clear, let's continue to make the official start time as 8:00 AM but know that some may come early, some a bit later.
