VO2 Max Test - Pic

As promised, a pic of me hooked up to the equipment for the VO2 max test.  Though my number was slightly higher today, there is a margin of error so my performance was basically equal to last month when I did the test.  One last visit on Mon. for the endurance test.  Since I know how long I "endured" last time, I am going to try to last a little longer this time.

Brent and Paul R. run Meriden 5K

Brent went sub-22 yesterday (21:52/7:03 pace). And my friend Paul Rabenold ran 1 second under 23.

http://www.greystoneracing.net/pages/Race%20Results%202013/Meriden%20Daffodil%204.21.13.txt

There are three short races I am planning on running in May. I know Brent is running two of them and I'm pretty sure all three. Newington, New Britain and Old Saybrook. May 11, 19 and 25. I predict he will be in  front of me in every one of them. But when I have a fast friend nearby ... well ... I tend to get faster ...

Nicely done Brent. Last time I suggested your nickname needed to change another fast friend objected. Keep this up and she will get outvoted. :)

Tray crushes, Mike goes farther than ever before, Lee is helped by Lea

This'll be brief. Three pictures, all taken by Linda, say it all.

In Tray's words, Lake Waramaug 50 miler - sub flippin' 9!!!!!!!! 8:56:33/10:44 pace. Beat my time from last year by 29 min.! Woo hoo!"

She gets faster by the hour.

Mike ran farther today than he has ever run before. And ... he's already talking about a return trip. Lee will run two loops w/ him. He helped me last year. My turn.

The only reason I finished today was because Lea helped me by running the last two loops (plus a tad more to bring it up to a full 16). She's running Cheshire 1/2 on the 28th. Thanks sooooo much Lea.

Re: Saturday Run

Thank you for the information, and I will keep checking your blog for information. Enjoy your race in New Preston. Last month I run the Lake Warramaug Lake Polar Bear Run, and it is beautiful there.

I will see you guys soon.

Thank you

Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the email. This Sunday three of us are running the 50K/50 mile ultra at Lake Waramaug in New Preston and several others are either racing elsewhere or coming to the ultra to run a few of the loops so this weekend we won't be at Brickyard on Saturday. We have a blog where we post a variety of things (upcoming races, pix, goals etc.) and usually around Thursday evening the time and place of the Saturday long run is posted. So the best way to know what's up is to check the blog around then.

We are a small group of very enthusiastic runners and look forward to your jumping in and meeting you and running with you. Your last two years have been great! I hope and think you'd enjoy running with us and we always enjoy newcomers! Just a week ago a guy ran w/ us for the first time and he'll be joining us at Brickyard on the 27th. He's a 3:10 marathoner and when I told him "we might be too slow for you" it didn't discourage him. We range in age from something like 32 to 70 and run short, long, fast, slow etc. etc. We all help each other.

What time are you guys running this weekend, and how long. I;m running a race on Sunday at CCSU, but I'm free on Saturday.

Let me tell you little bit about my running. My first ever race was in June 2011 at a 5K race in North Haven, and I liked running right away. Then I found out that I liked the long run even better, and in that year in October I did my first half marathon, and in October 2012 I did my first full marathon at ING Hartford. Since my first race in 2011 I have run close to 40 races in all over Connecticut.

Thank you

Lee, I did OK but not as well is I wanted to. I wanted to break one hour but I went over. It was too hot and humid. The temperature was 88, plus I was tired. I did 9:48 pace 1 hour and 49 seconds. I did place first in my age group. I've just come back from walking. I have not stopped all day. I don't know how long. I couldn't keep up! Tomorrow we are going fishing and kayaking. My grandkids do not understand that I am 64 years old. I saw the picture of all you guys at Brickyard. I can't believe it is still cold in Connecticut. All you guys can take it easy now the hard work is done.

Welcome Tim!

Thanks Mike for the photos! Tim Rascher joined us this morning and ran 14. We all got to talk w/ him during the run. It's so great when somebody new comes and you can tell them a bit about yourself and learn a bit about their interests and goals etc. etc. Thanks for coming! May Chicago go well for you. Have a great time on the west coast w/ your new bride!

Mike went 10. Lea's 14 was the longest she's run all year. She and 3:10 marathoner Tim "won" the "race" this morning w/ Tray and Lee coming in shortly after. We were both a bit tired. Tim was very accomodating w/ the slow pace (about 10:30).

So it's off to Florida for Tray, who's packing Iron pills, and is totally up about recent doctor results saying all valves are working just fine.

Lake Waramaug, here we come. The word for the week is TAPER.

Re: [Brickyarders] Call to Brickyard!

I'll be at Brickyard on Sat. My taper plan for the Waramaug 50k calls for 10 miles. See everyone there. -Mike

Spozed to rain like crazy tomorrow and get cold but Saturday looks like it'll be good. Bring fluids, Lee. Tim runs 3:10 marathons. That will bring our average marathon time down considerably. Look forward to seeing everybody there.

While we are running, think ahead to what others are up to. For example, Mr Bodkhe will be getting ready to run 26.2 in Boston on Monday. And Mr. Bradley (the younger) will be praying for windless weather so he can launch his ingenious video balloon experiment in Medford, MA.

Oh, almost forgot. Lea and maybe Patrick will come to Lake W. and run a couple of loops (and maybe have Go Brickyarders! Go Lee! Go Mike! Go Tray! signs) and Wanda Hodsen might come to run / cheer us on. I cannot wait!!!!

Back to Brickyard!

Brent will be away at the 10 miler in Washington, DC. Go Slackin' Keep us posted.

Lea and Mike are doing Danbury 1/2 on Sunday so not sure if they'll join us but hope they do, at least for a few miles.

Start time is 7:30 AM at the tried and true not virtual dirt pile parking lot.

Tray and Lee are going long and going run/walk. 12 out to Collinsville and 12 back to Brickyard. We're packing food and will be camelbaking.

Not sure who else might want to jump into this mix but ... whatever you're doing ... do it well.

Re: Interested in Running

Hi Tim

Thanks for the message. Sure, jump in. We might not be fast enough for you but you might want to run w/ us to see if it's a good fit. We are a very small group and are about as varied as you can get. There's between 5 and 8 of us. Our "home base" is the Greenway off Brickyard Road in Farmington. We meet typically at 7:30 AM Saturday mornings and run from 8 to 20 miles depending on what races we're getting ready for. If there's a race on Saturday we might skip our group run or have it on Sunday. We often have a common race we're shooting for but just as often there might be 2 or more different races among us. Right now three of us are getting ready for a 50K / 50 mile ultra on April 21. This Saturday we'll be running between 18 and 24 milles. You would be the youngest among us. Several of us are running Hartford full and Newport full in the Fall. One of us is doing both, back to back. They are on consecutive days. You figure it out :)

We are very  interested in attracting new people and you sound like you would be a great addition. Over the winter months, because the Greenway was under snow, we trained at various different places; the Iron Horse 1/2 course, Rogers Orchard and in the Burlington Hills near where one of us lives.

If you need directions to the Greenway parking lot off Brickyard Rd, let me know.

We have a blog where we post, every week, usually around Thursday night, where and when we'll meet for the Saturday run.

http://tinyurl.com/brickyarders

Some of us are religious about posting our runs in an internal log in the blog. Look for Sonic the Cat.

Pictures, upcoming race, results, race reports etc. The blog is where we exchange ideas. Anybody can post to it by sending an email to

Hi Lee - My name is Tim Rascher.  I moved to West Hartford from Orlando about a year ago for work.  I am a runner.  I got into marathons in 2009 after discovering I liked distance running.  My goal was to qualify for Boston, and I came within 42 seconds in the last marathon I ran, which was the 2011 Disney Marathon.  I am 32 years old (30 at the time) - my time was 3:11.41 - at the time the cut off for Boston for my age group was 3:10.59.  Shortly thereafter, Boston revised their qualifying times, bringing the new qualifying time to 3:05.  Needless to say I was bummed, and decided to take a year off racing, during which time I wound up getting my current job, moving up here and getting settled.
I've found that the desire to qualify is back in me, so I have registered for the Chicago Marathon (I ran twice before and really enjoy it). I never really stopped training, though I haven't done any long runs (10+) in a while and am looking to start.  I got your email from the Hartford Track Club's website and am interested in coming out.
Thanks very much for your time.
