Tracy, Joe and Mike ran the Roxbury Full this morning. Lee jumped in and ran 3 loops with Mike, Michelle Bosco and Tray.

Mike

Tray and Joe

Mena Shehata (Kelly Pabilonia and Caitlin Rossi kept him on track)

Vanessa Russo ("Serena Speedi") "broke her streak" and ran just over 4 hours for the first time in many marathons.

Vanessa Russo
Sara Belles won with a 3:11 (and a day after her birthday). This is a course record. The fellow that won it did a 2:51, missing the course record by only a couple of minutes.

Tinsel

Rose placed 2nd and Linda got this shot. Linda and Lee showed up at 10:37 and registration was closed at 10:30. And they wouldn't budge. Bummed. Ran it anyway and took it real slow. Rose, Linda and I went to IHOP and had brunch after.

41st Annual Fischang-Cicchetti Memorial Race 5-Mile

Mike and I ran this one this morning in Waterbury. This race is 41 years old. I had never heard of it. Mike got 42 flat and I got 38 flat.

Here's a pic of the 169 gang ( which of course yours truly missed :-(  )

Robyn Errickson is 3rd from the left. She and I pooled to the race (she's my neighbor). Will Sanders averaged 2 seconds quicker than a 5 minute pace (yes, 4:58). Smashed the course record by 2 minutes.

Ghost Run

Tray, Mike and Lee ran this one. Big turnout. So big, they ran out of bibs. Neil Mandel ran w/o a bib. Hopefully he told them his time and will be counted.

Mike did 2:02, about 8 minutes quicker than last year. Lee wanted sub-1:50 but got 1:55. Tray and he ran together from maybe mile 8 to 10. She got 1:56. Larry ran 1:38, a few minutes slower than last time.

This is a 60+ race but they gave Lee a 1st in the 70+ anyway. Yay! His 4th whistle.

Here's what Linda took.

Wolf Den Dash

On Sunday Adam, Mike and Lee ran the Wolf Den Dash, an 8 mile trail race in Pomfret, CT. The gal in the middle is Robyn Errickson, a Newington neighbor. We decided to run it together and not race. It was a very challenging course. And very beautiful. My average pace was 13:50. Nuf said?! Walked a lot of it. Fell four times. Didn't get hurt. There was a  yellow jacket nest somewhere near the 3+ mile mark and she got nailed twice, I got stung once.

Here's a picture of one of the rock formations we saw. This picture was not taken yesterday, thus the lack of green etc.

Hogsback and Wolf Den Dash

Adam's doing both.  Here's what he had to say about the Sunday race (Wolf Den Dash in Promfret)

"I ran a tough trail race last year in Pomfret, and I'm going to repeat it this Sunday. If you like trail running you will love this."

"Israel Putnam Wolf Den is a historic site off Wolf Den Road in Pomfret, Connecticut. At this location in 1742, Israel Putnam shot and killed Connecticut's last known wolf. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985." Wikipedia

My Run 169 Towns friend Shell Bee is directing the Wolf Den Dash. You can run 4 or 8 miles. She designed an awesome knit hat.

The day before, this Saturday, is HTC's Hogsback 1/2.

I'll be running two loops at Reservoir 3 this Friday evening starting at 4:30 with Kevin Mason and Amy Ciccarillo and possibly Tray. Join us if you can.

New Haven

It's been awhile since ...

Instead of running 20,000 meters on Monday, Lee spent $20,000 on a 2012 Subaru Legacy sedan. It's red. In mint condition. Will pick it up in Vernon this week. Like running shoes, he keeps cars waaaaay too long. His Accord is 19.

Full results of the 20K are at

http://www.newhavenroadrace.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/new-haven-20K-results.txt

Mike, Lani, Lea and Barbara ran the 20K. Go Barbara!

I learned about these two guys' times from a new friend Bill Liebler who sought my advice pre race on the wisdom of running at an 8:15 pace. He was 5 minutes ahead of me at the Bristol 1/2, is younger etc. etc. Looking at my last year's New Haven time etc. etc. I told him I thought that might be a bit unrealistic and that 8:25 might be wiser. He killed it. (Time below).

Larry Regan killed it.

Lani breaks all known speed records ... (wind assisted)

Lani emailed me last nite ... She wrote:

I thought you would find this amusing. I am in Charlotte, NC now.  We flew from Bradley to Detroit and then down here.  I started my GPS watch on the tarmac.

My watch thinks I ran 247.9 miles per hour at an altitude of 4,000 feet, and my fastest mile was covered in 1 second.

Somewhere around that height, I lost the signal. I started it again on descent.

I am almost 100% sure you are not supposed to do this on the plane, and 100% sure the stewardess saw me.  Oh well.

Makes for some very very interesting GPS files!  The polar program can use google earth to create videos of each workout. I am attaching the link to the descent into Charlotte. I think if you click on it, it brings you to a screen with a blue hyperlink that says "Relive".  Click that and you can see the video.

Hope all is well - Lani

https://flow.polar.com/training/relive/175543258

I responded ...

Lani,

You are too funny. Thanks so much. I think your record-breaking "workout" would make marvelous Brickyarder blog material and, with your permission, I will wrap it up and broadcast it. I look forward to visiting the link. This "workout" will surely do wonders toward your effort to get 2015 in in 2015.

Congratulations. Rogers, Salazar, Flanagan ... Ralston!!!

Lee

She got back ...

Fine with me, I think some Brickyarders might get a kick out of it.

Bristol 1/2

An awesome Photo Report by Linda Bradley may be enjoyed by clicking the link below!

Mike, Lea, Lee and Tray ran the Bristol 1/2 this morning. It was hot and hilly! A few runners were mislead early in the race and ended up running an extra 0.9. Big 169 presence. Larry Regan, Brian Fidler, Neil Mandel, Kevin Mason and many other friends were there. Pancakes at the end! Ryan O'Conner won it overall!
