Re: [Brickyarders] Apple Harvest 5 mile

I had the exact same pace as last year (8:07) so I'm sure I would've beat my time by at least a second, had the course been the same!  Very frustrating.  Anyway Lee, you forgot to tell us about the awards.  What did you get?  Did you even see Brent come up on you or did he pull a nasty sneak attack?  :-)

Lea, Tracy, Mike, Brent and Lee ran the 5 mile this morning. (Well so did Bill Rogers and George Kominos but we're limiting ourselves to just the most awesome runners :))

The above results link is empty right now and so I'm not sure what I'm posting is right for Lea and Tray.

Let's start w/ our youngest finisher, Mr. Andrew Vroeginday, who placed 3rd OVERALL in his race. And he didn't even look winded. Brother Ben cruised in shortly thereafter. They collected beautiful medals. Nice going guys.

Mom crossed in about 41 minutes. Course was about .14 long so I think that works out to about the 8 minute pace she wanted.

Brent and Lee dueled to the end. I am very sorry to have to report this picture was taken with about 150 yards

to go. Mr. Stratton threw it into high gear and finished something like 3 seconds in front of Lee! Impressive.

Mike managed 43 and change. Not bad at all. (Remember, we're dealing w/ a guy who ran 21 yesterday and part of it was a killer hill).

Lea was not far behind him. I think 44. Not sure.

Fritters from my friends Nhung and Erek followed.

Here's Bill Rogers and George Kominos. George has coached Tracy. Bill ran the 5K and just beat my friends Sam Lewbel and Paul Rabenold.

Fritter Magnet Sighting

Attention Lea, Sandra, Steve, Tracy, Lee, Brent, Barbara, Dave, Isaac, Mike. An overwhelmingily powerful fritter magnet has been detected in Southington, Connecticut. Shield all sugar attracting objects on your body (your mouth comes to mind) unless you enjoy the rush. Counter measures include running 5 kilometers or 5 miles which are known to burn the hydrocarbons.

Sandra, Winner in the Biggest Smile contest

Not only can Sandra run a 1:51 1/2 @ Surftown recently, but she clearly knows how to smile.

She's running Bristol 5K Mum-a-Thon tomorrow and helping a friend on Sunday @ the Nipmuck full in Willington.

Sat. 29

Lee has suggested VDP at 7AM.   NOAA indicated calm winds, light rain and 50's temps.  I will make every effort to get there, besides the mystery of the VDP diamonds still exists.

This Saturday

I'm not sure who might be making it to Brickyard this Saturday. If you see this and want to run, I encourage you to put something either in the log or post a comment on the blog. I am not running this Saturday and I am pretty sure Tracy and Brent aren't either. Lea's considering Apple Harvest (mostly for the fritters) and Mike hasn't decided which of the two races he'll run. Mike *will* be going longish on Saturday so he could probably do it at one of the Greenway venues (Brickyard or VDP). Maybe Isaac and Sandra could hook up (but since they haven't met yet they'd first have to agree on a meeting place). Steve might be in too. Perhaps start @ VDP for all interested @ 7 AM. Again, if you are interested in getting in some miles, tell each other thru the blog or log. T minus 10 for the Mohawk gang. T minus 16 for the Hartford gang. Pray that Tray's glutes and cold stop hurting and / or go away soon. Keep running! Lee

Dark Side?

Tracy ... what are the requirements to enter The Dark Side? Would running Ghost Run AND Weston back to back after Mohawk and before this full do it?

PS

Thanx to Slackin' I was made aware of and snapped up THE LAST Roxbury Full slot.  Brent ... I'm leaning toward running the full full, not only 15+ of it. Our awesome Tracy is big on covering 100% of the distance and you already know the penalties associated w/ only completing 14/18.6th of a race (namely the pre-next race warm up of what you slackered off).

30K and Niantic

Brent, Lee and Tracy ran the 30K (well, this is partially true) while Lea finished her "two day marathon" @ the Niantic Bay Half.

266 177 Lea Crown F 35 40/72 F3039 Meriden CT 2:10:13 2:10:50 9:55

Can't resist adding that my friend Andie Hughes ran a 1:40, a truly phenomenal time. She and I have run several around 1:43-1:45 1/2s in the last few years so she really excelled yesterday. First out of 28 in her division!

44 336 Andrea Williamson F 57 1/28 F5059 Norwalk CT 1:40:41 1:40:49  7:39

A sign was down in our 30K which caused us to take only two out of the three lefts (see below),

cutting .2 off from Tray's and my 30K. Results are not up yet but here are the links

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/226043849

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/226041656

Brent looked all too rested when I finished up, a result of his decision to allow us to, as he put it in an email, get "ambushed by two elites" and settle for 14 miles. By executive decision, Tracy and I will require that he warm up at MP pre-Southington with a 4.6 mile run.

Hogsback!

http://plattsys.com/m1shell.asp?eventid=904

What an astoundingly perfect half marathon. Sri ran 1:37, Lea ran 2:05, Mike ran 1:57. 270 registered runners. Many old timers made it including Bill Tribou, founding members Bill Gagnon and Charley Dyson. Julian Nichols, Dan Arnold, Jane Arnold, David Reik and Paul Rabenold came. Isaac, Linda and Lee helped out. Kelly and Shaun did a great job.

Light Day on the Greenway

Looks like it'll be a light day on the Greenway this weekend. I know of four races taking place ...

4th Annual Ray Crothers Memorial 2-Mile X-C Race - Saturday
Hogsback Half - Saturday
Niantic Bay Half Marathon & 5K - Sunday
Fall Frolic 10/20/30K in Stratford - Sunday

Here are the people I know who are registered for Hogsback ...

Lea Crown
Tim Hawley
Catherine Lyons
Jo Poliquin
Lani Ralston
Barry Stoner
Mike Taricani
Tara Twig
Steve Hudson
Bekkie Wright
Sri Bodkhe
Bill Varhue
Kelly Burns Gallagher
Jerry Shimoda-Peterson

And here is what I've got so far to celebrate the Hartford Track Club's 50th birthday. These results, pix, books, medals, newsletters, awards etc. will be on display at the Hogsback Half. Hope to see you there!

RE: [Brickyarders] Sunday races

Hello all, checking to see if this new phone allows me to post replies like my blackberry did.

Great job done by all those who trained -- or raced --- or both this weekend.

I believe the tavern trot results are posted at LastMileRacing.com.

After today's fiasco trying to get to the start, I am hereby publicly declaring a lifetime boycott of MapQuest, which sent me on a wild goose chase through Poquonack!

Enjoy the camelback, good luck to all at the 30k and Mohawk!

Lani

Tracy and Lani snuck in a 3.5 miler today for a good cause. Tracy's HTML skills are improving. She got it right on the second try (see the log). Official results are not up yet for their race but her 106 out of over 750+ runners is excellent. Her Garmin shows an 8:11 pace. Lani had a "directional mishap" but not only made it to the start but placed 2nd in AG.

Also, Sandra's Surftown Half in RI this morning ... check this out ...15 MINUTES off her PR for this distance. Official results not up yet.

Brickyarders ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tracy ... consider yourself GROUNDED tomorrow. No running allowed.

PS I bought me a camelbak today. Inaugural run: 30K.

Mohawk Hudson River Marathon Countdown!

Marathoners Tracy Vroeginday, Brent Stratton, Sri Bodkhe and Lee Bradley will run 26.2 on Sunday October 7, 2012 8:30 AM

Welcome Isaac!

Let's see ... Lani, Tracy, Lee, Mike, Steve, Isaac, Dave and Brent made it today. Tracy, Brent and Lani ran early together and then I think Lani kept going toward Brickyard to meet up w/ Mary (who had an alarm clock malfunction). Mike, Brent, Tray, new guy Isaac, Dave and I headed toward Collinsville. Barbara did a 5K near the Health Center this morning. Dave and Mike wanted about 10 today so they split off. Isaac and Lee were a bit ahead of Tracy and Brent but we finally got together when we all discovered the trail ended @ Rt 44. Steve ran into us at the tressle bridge and ran well w/ us out to Canton and back to VDP. Isaac gave him a ride back to his car and then caught up w/ us again on the trail. Impressive!

It was fun for me to talk w/ new guy Isaac. He's nursing a lower left leg injury and is taking a break from trail running. He'll be volunteering @ Hogsback. He ran about 21 today. His trail run stories were something else! He lives near the UConn Health Center and does cancer research at the Center. Great run today Isaac!

So ... That's really it for long runs before our marathons. Great to see everybody on this beautiful Saturday morning. Looking forward to Lea's Norwalk 1/2 report, Sandra's Surftown 1/2 report. I think it's time to put up a countdown clock for Mohawk and Hartford.

Re: [Brickyarders] Call to Brickyard!

I'll be there at 7am......I'll drive there this week and meet everyone in the parking lot. I'll run between 8-12 miles.

Wow!

Sandra will be running the Surftown 1/2 @ Misquamicut Beach in RI put on by Hartford Marathon Foundation at 7:30am on Sunday.

In an effort to accommodate the needs of as many Brickyarders as possible, I suggest a start time of 7 AM and a start place of the Virtual Dirt Pile. If you have not driven to the VDP parking lot yet and have a GPS you may use 310 Collinsville Road, Farmington.

Tracy, Lee and Brent are going 11.5 out toward Canton and back to VDP. I expect others will be going quite a bit shorter but it would be great to be together for at least the first 5 or so miles.

Next week is Hogsback, Niantic Bay and the 30K so it looks like we won't be at Brickyard or VDP. The following week is Apple Harvest 5 miler in Southington. The following week is Mohawk full. The following week is Hartford full and half and Newport half.

That's a lot of racing!

The benefits of walking

I'm sure a few Brickyarders will relate to this. It is from a book Lani gave to me a few years ago.

Saturday, September 8, 2012

Welcome Sandra!

About half of us rolled into VDP @ 6 and 1/2 of us rolled into Brickyard @ ~ 7. Sandra ran w/ the VDP group for 5 miles and then turned around to complete 10. I think we all got a chance to talk with her / run with her and look forward to doing it again and again and again! She's got a 1/2 next Saturday and seems to be OK w/ a minor hamstring pull, being very careful not to overdo.

Brent, Tracy, Lee, Steve and Mike covered between 18 and 20 miles today.

Steve's route was awesome. Ultragirl yelled out "Viaduct Trail" at one particularly rocky section. When we turned around @ 7 after climbing a couple of decent hills we decided not to take exactly

the same route back (see map). I think next week we'll not take the left across Bridge St bridge and then west up the hill but rather stay on the trail toward Canton. Three of us are going 22/23 and are looking for a flatter path. The realization that our marathons are about a month away is sobering.

Got together w/ Rose, Mary, Linda and Lani @ Dunkin' Donuts after. Their group started between 6:45 and 7:30 and did about 9 to 11 miles I think. Barbara ran with them.

Time to sit down, rest and be thankful we are all able to do this and have such awesome friends to do it with.

Call to Brickyard!

You've heard of Brad Hudson. You've heard of Kate Hudson. You've heard of Henry Hudson. Have you heard of Steve Hudson? New route designer, Steve has followed up his last week's Farmington Flats run w/ ... a 14+ mile out and back. For those who need 22+, run the 14+ from VDP to VDP and then tack on another 8 by continuing thru VDP toward the Brickyard Rd parking lot for 4 and come back to VDP for the final 4. Start time @ VDP @ (you ready for this?) 6 AM.

(If you find getting your butt out of bed this early a challenge, consider rolling into the VDP parking lot @ about 8:00 AM and run the last 8 miles w/ those who'll've done 14 by then.)

Start @ Virtual Dirt Pile (off Collinsville Rd), go to Collinsville. Then head West across river (Rt 179 / Bridge St). Then head South West. Stay on the roads (Claire Hill Rd) to the reservoir. Take path (Cold Brook / Clear Brook Rd) for 2 miles then return. 2 moderate hills are on this route.

If you need help w/ driving directions to VDP parking lot ... Instead of taking the right off Farmington Ave onto Brickyard Rd, keep going on Farmington Ave toward Unionville. Go strait at the intersection (don't bear left, don't bear right) which will be Main St. This becomes Collinsville Rd. VDP parking lot is on right

Re: [Brickyarders] New Haven!

Yes, our backsides look great, huh?!  It's actually pretty neat the way she says, "Now that the sun has risen..."  as the camera zooms in on us walking.  Better than the 2 sec. clip of me going under the START banner at Hartford Marathon 2 years ago.  Tray

Dave Condit blew Lee Bradley away in the final moments of the race. Barbara Kream ran a 27 minute 5K. Tracy bettered her last year time by 4 minutes. Lea and Rose traded places a few times and both finished w/ just over 10 minute paces. Sri got 1:29. Larry Regan got 1:31. John Courtmanche, fortunately only 69, ran 3 minutes quicker than Lee.

Wow!

Count 'em! Lee, Lani, Lea, Mike, Rose, Steve, Barbara and Mary! It was so great to see so many come today! We ran between 4 and 15+ miles this morning. Steve lead some of us (by turning left) onto the Farmington flats while the rest of us took the usual right. Thanks Steve for introducing us to a very beautiful area.

Steve will be running Hogsback and now lives near Hogsback. Lani has covered up her DNF stick on w/ a much more positive and funny stick on. She'll be running the 20K. Lea has a slew of races in the queue and is back at work and ready for New Haven.

Mary turns

on Monday. We missed Brent and Tracy. Brent is biking, running short tomorrow and will make the 5K 20K decision tomorrow afternoon. Tracy ran / walked in the Amherst hills w/ Steph today. Barbara is doing the 5K. Dave took the day off and will be racing the 20K.

Happy Birthday minus 2 Mary! Sooooooo great to run w/ you today.
