Call to Brickyard!

Well, Toto may have got blown away during last night's winds and Phil has yet to report on his shadow, but, unless Greenway Monitors Barbara and Dave report otherwise, the Brickyard (regular parking lot) is open for business this Saturday. Start time: 7:30 AM. 15 miles, give or take any number you like. See you there.

The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard

1"For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard. 2He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.

3"About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4He told them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.' 5So they went.

"He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing. 6About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, 'Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?'

7"'Because no one has hired us,' they answered.

"He said to them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard.'

8"When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.'

9"The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. 10So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12'These men who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.'

13"But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? 14Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'

16"So the last will be first, and the first will be last."

Peoples

Tracy crushed the course, bettering her last year time by 8 1/2 minutes. Lee did it about a minute quicker than last year. (Tracy and Lee crossed together last year, dead last. You figure out how much she was ahead of him this year.) Mike completed a 54 mile week and finished the two loops and was unable to duplicate Lee and Tray's dead last award :)

Re: Fun Run tomorrow

Hi Brian

This weekend the Brickyarders will be doing their long run on Sunday at Peoples State Forest. This is a Hartford Club Winter Series event. Here are the details.

Peoples Forest 8.5/17mi Run is this Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 10:00am

This run is held at Peoples Forest on East River Road, Pleasant Valley, CT. One loop for the shorter distance or do two loops for the longer run. Tom Buckley (tel: 860-693-9206, E-mail: tbtrailrun@hotmail.com) is the director. Take Route 44 through New Hartford. Right on Route 181 to Pleasant Valley. At four way stop, turn right to cross iron frame bridge. Take the first left after crossing the bridge, which is East River Road. Go 1 and 1/10th of a mile to main gate of Peoples Forest State Park and turn left into parking area.

A good way to follow our group is to check in with our blog toward the end of the week. Here's the address:

http://tinyurl.com/brickyarders

Thanks for your interest. I hope you can make it on Sunday. Don't worry about "burning up the pace." There will be slow, medium and fast guys / gals and you can pick your distance: 1 loop is 8.5 miles, 2 loops is 17. I know of 4 Brickyarders that will be running and there will probably be about 30-40 total runners.

Look forward to meeting you this weekend or on some future weekend. We always like to meet new people and we make a point of trying to help each other become better runners!

I'm trying to shake off the holiday slump and getting back into running before I lose all of last year's effort. Is the Brickyard run on tomorrow and if so is it from the parking lot a mile up the road from route 4?

I have not run with the group on Saturday morning but have been running with the fun run out of Fleet Feet on a Wednesday night. I'll not be burning up the pace at the front of the group but the camaraderie will for sure help me keep going.

I know there is a dusting of snow forecast so please let me know if I need to be at the parking lot at 7am

Comin' home!

Linda and I are on our way home from Florida and will be home tomorrow nite. Here are a couple of shots from my race in Naples.

Greetings from florida

Call to Iron Horse

Barbara and Dave have been monitoring the greenway and as of Wednesday it was not runnable. Despite rumors of a heatwave, my run this morning felt pretty cold so my guess is it'd be chancy to do Brickyard tomorrow. Therefore ...

Mike may have flamingos (and as I write this a Disney Half in the books) but we've got an Iron Horse to "ride." Saturday, 7:30 AM. At the playground off Iron Horse Blvd. 8 mile loop, as many times as your feet desire. See you there!

My portrait and an idea for this Saturday's long run

My friend Shelly Castiola drew this for me. It was based on a photo of me taken at the Reservoir Run, a half marathon in Weston, CT. I think she got the famous Lee grimace just right. What do you think?

Speaking of Reservoirs, Reservoir #3 in West Hartford (Hartford 1/4 Marathon site) is clear. It's a 3.5 mile loop. If Brickyard is still snowed in, we could loop it multiple times for this Saturday's run. It's got everything: no cars, pick your distance (in multiples of 3.5), about in the middle of where everybody lives, everybody knows how to get there and it's gorgeous.

Judi and Rose

As we shiver in Connecticut and slip on its icy roads I thought it might help to know there is another state which has colors other than black and white and a couple of gorgeous gals we know enjoying it.

The Log

It has come to the attention of the administrative branch of Brickyarders, Inc. that far too little logging is being done. Statistics show that logging can take as much as 5 minutes off your PR in *any* distance race. Plus, viewing the log w/ a browser (by clicking the link under Sonic the Cat) is good for another minute off your PR.

Brickyarders Are Branching Out!

According to GMs (Greenway Monitors) Dave Condit and Barbara Kream, Brickyard is not runnable now. It may be OK by Saturday but in the spirit of branching out and experimenting w/ new venues, the discussion on the internal log has generated our first official off site long run.

The start is on Iron Horse Blvd. approximately 1/2 mile north of the intersection of Iron Horse and Drake Hill Road. Here's a map I got when I got directions to

1 Iron Horse Boulevard, Simsbury, CT.

It looks like the race start is a bit south of 1 Iron Horse Blvd (see course map link below).

Let's all arrive at 7:30 AM to start our run.
