Welcome Meredith!

Rose called me last night and said she got a call from someone who wanted to join us today. 7:30 was the time they agreed on. Meredith and her Mom showed up right on schedule and after a little talking we took off. Linda and Dana walked North and Rose, Brent, Mike, Barbara, Dave, Meredith and I headed South.

Rose already had a a couple of miles and Brent and Mike had been running since 6 AM. Meredith is head of her X-Country High School team and is just back from a 5-month hospital stay so she is excited about running again and getting back into the swing of things. We all got a chance to run with her and look forward to doing it again. She knows a bunch of trails in the area, one as long as 8 miles. Oh, did I mention she runs a 20+- 5K?

Where In The World Is Mike snap-decided last night to jump into the Fairfield fray. Brent will be there, drinking coffee w/ Linda and cheering us on.

Ran into Judi @ Dunkin' Donuts where some of us had breakfast. Welcome home!

8:30 AM Sunday. Bang!

Way to go Brent. We knew you'd have a great 1st marathon. That might almost be a Boston qualifying time for your age group. I'd check that out if I were you.

Call to Brickyard!

Looks like there'll be an early "wavelet" @ 6 AM and another "wavelet" @ 7 AM. These waves may overlap; I know Rose (who wanted 7 AM) is famous for arriving early. And Mike's hinting his 6 AM may not end @ 7 AM. Tray's got both a 13.1 race and a 100 race swirling in her mind, so who knows what she'll do :) Brent's going short and Lee's focused on beating Paul Couzelis on Sunday so he's a definite 8 miles starting @ 7 AM.

Rain's spozed to roll in later today which means this triple digit weather is outta here.

Sorry about the late posting of Mike's comment on Brent's marathon. We moderate comment posting on the blog and I forget to check for unpublished comments.

For those of us doing Fairfield ... may you have an excellent day!

The Suckiest 5K of 2012

Not such a great race for me.  But most people were complaining about how lousy they did tonight.  It was very humid and the course was hillier than I remembered.

I did something different this time and actually warmed up for 3 miles beforehand.  When I went out for the first mile, I felt pretty good and had high hopes.  Time was about 7:50.  Between miles 1 and 2, my hopes were dashed - 2nd mile was 8:33!  I don't remember when I had such a slow mile for a 5K.  Finished the last mile in 7:37 but it was too late by then to recoup the time I lost.  I ran as fast as I could to the finish line just to get below 25 min. and made it with a 24:55.  Awful.  Race in the Park: 24:24; Newington:  24:41; Solstice:  24:55.  By the end of the year, I may hit a reverse PR of 30 min.!

However, I think Sri ran it over a min. slower than his usual 5K time.  Brent, correct me if I'm wrong.  And I believe Bob Dacey was sucking some wind as well.  All of these things make me feel better, along with Brent reminding me that I just ran 35 miles a few days ago and was up the entire night.  Oh yeah - forgot about that.

Lani rocked out, in my opinion.  She got a 22:55, which is what I hope to get for any 5K at some point in my life!  I think she won her age division.  I did not place in my age division but while I was partaking in the post-race food, Lani said they called my name.  I went over to ask Kelly if and why they called my name.  She said I won an award and I told her that they already announced my age division awards.  She said they had me classified as an Athena.  So I took my giant strawberry cookie award and pondered wolfing down another cupcake (to live up to my new title). :P

Ferry Landing this Saturday!

Tray suggested it, Brent and Lee have run it, Mike, Lee and Rose and Todd have done the Jan 1 Joe Vailonis 10k Winter Series at it, Lea's run thru it during the Asta Memorial 19.6 ...

This Saturday, 7:30 AM, the Brickyarders' venue has migrated to Rocky Hill Ferry Landing, USA. Anything from 10 to 24 and beyond.

Some of us will be well rested after doing the Wednesday evening Solstice 5K, some of us will be warming up for the Branford Father's day 5 mile. Others have new job titles they need to brag about. We all have big plans for the future.

Hope to see you there!

Well done everyone!  No pics of me.  Boo hoo hoo. :'(

Guess I'll have to do a repeat (or actually better my time) when the cameras are rolling in Oct.

Off to bed!

I think it's safe to say everybody hurts. But it's a good hurt, right?!

Linda Bradley took some awesome pictures. I hope somebody took pix at Worcester. We *need* to see our very own Tray. I can only imagine what she looked like as she stared down that clock creeping closer and closer to 4:00:00.

It was a beautiful day to run. I was actually cold before the race started. But when the race got underway, it was all clear, sunny, and downright gorgeous out.

Well done Brickyarders! We all should be proud! This has been a day to remember. Rest your weary body, and remember how wonderful it is to be alive.
