Monday!

Since New Haven is just around the corner, I guess a "Call to Brickyard!" doesn't quite fit. Don't hold back tho ... even if you're running New Haven, there's no rule in the Brickyarders manual that says you can't show up and run on Saturday.

I am going to try and run short tomorrow locally and then take Sunday off.

Lani, Lea, Tracy, Brent, maybe Mike, Streaker Dave (he's run EVERY New Haven) and, you ready for this?!!!, Barbara are registered for the 20K.

Linda, Brent, Jeannette Cyr and I will be driving down together.

I'm suffering from Low Mileage itis, slowed down by a dentist appointment I forgot I had and could not cancel. So a planned 14 mile for today never happened. According to Sri, this was a fortunate thing as I kinda crapped out in a Wednesday evening run after 13.

So ... whatever you do, do it well and leave it all on the road.

New shoes and Wethersfield 10K

It's hard to top a new pair of shoes. Check out the full name of these babies: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13. Picked up some pricy socks too. Rose has a pair. Experia Mico Mini. $14.99. One pair. Tried 'em out at Wethersfield 10K. They feel just fine. Got $40 off (from Sound Runner gift certificates won at two races) plus no tax (back to school week). Speaking of which, I start again at Tunxis Thursday next.

Looking forward to running in the Meadows w/ Tray and Slackin' tomorrow at 5:30 PM. Ferry Park, Rocky Hill. If you're not busy, join us.

Brent placed 4th this morning. Ran a 7:10 pace in a slightly long 10K (6.33 by my MapMyRun). His time was 46:10. Not a PR by my records (45 something ) but, as I say, the course was long. Well done Mr Stratton.

Tracy PRs in the marathon on Friday!

On Friday, Tracy ran a 3:52 marathon. Here's how she described it.

Well Sri and Lee already know the news since they FB.  This email is for Brent's benefit.  Thought I had a slight chance of beating his Providence marathon time but alas, I could not do it.  Eaked out a 3:52:39 at the Self-Transcendence Marathon in NY this morning.  What a totally awesome race!  Will definitely be going back next year.  Well supported, beautiful, flat course.  Loops were just under 3 miles - did 9 of them.  Almost started another loop at the finish instead of going in the finish chute!  May have cost me 5 sec., not a big deal.

Physical Self Transcendence. Self Transcendence can most easily be measured through improvements in physical achievements. In running it involves trying to break new records in both time and speed. The beauty of self transcendence is that it can be practised by anyone; we need not compete with others, we can just compete with ourselves. From this perspective we can get great joy by surpassing our previous personal bests. As Sri Chinmoy suggests

“Self-transcendence gives us joy in boundless measure. When we transcend ourselves, we do not compete with others. We do not compete with the rest of the world, but at every moment we compete with ourselves."

PS:  I believe my time at the 20K mark was 1:46 and change so I will be going for a sub-1:45 at New Haven!

Call to Brickyard!

Happy End of Summer. Kind of Oxymoronic huh. Anyway, Looks like Lee, Lani, Brent, and Mike will be running. Have not heard from anybody else. 6:30 AM start at the regular parking lot. Brent and Lee will do just 8 (we're racing Old Wethersfield 10K on Sunday). Lea's drinking beer in Germany and couldn't catch the red eye so count her out this time. Mike is going long and plans on running from his place to Brickyard, joining us for 8 and then running home.

Anybody else ... show us your pretty / handsome face and we'll let you in. Hell, show up, no matter what you look like, and you're good to go.

MADD Dash

http://www.coolrunning.com/results/13/ct/Aug17_MADDDa_set1.shtml

I ran the MADD Dash 5K in Stratford this morning. The "bad news": I got beat by an 8 year old. The "good news": I beat Governor Dan Malloy. There was a 1/4 mile kids run before the 5K and I was their rabbit. Linda and I helped the timer. Ran 24:58 (8:03) and placed 1st in division. We went to the RD's (Marty Schaivone's) place after and had beer and pizza. After that, we went to my friend Paul Couzelis' place (who lives on the course).

Re: Saturday 8/17

Hi Carole,

Unfortunately, it looks like our group will be underrepresented tomorrow morning. We are quite a small group to begin with and two of us are racing on Sunday and I'm racing tomorrow. I'm not sure what two other regular members are planning but they might be there. Here's what I'll do: I'll post something (this exchange) on our blog saying you're looking to run tomorrow and if anybody's going to be there to get back to me and I'll let you know. To answer your specific question, every week is different but typically we go between 10 and 20 miles. I know this is a big range; often we break into smaller groups if we want to go different distances. We have old, young, fast and slow members so I'm sure you'd find company. It may not work out this weekend but then again it may. The best way to know what our group is up to is to check the blog periodically, especially around Thursday or Friday.

I'm going to copy teamprimalforce.3141@blogger.com in on this which will cause this exchange to go on the blog. The eight members of our group will get notified of this exchange automatically.

Complicated.

Hope something works out for you.

Bridge of Flowers 10K

http://www.coolrunning.com/results/13/ma/Aug10_Bridge_set1.shtml

Sri, Brent and Lee ran the Bridge of Flowers Classic 10K in Shelburne Falls, MA at 9 AM. Brent outpaced Sri in the final moments with a spectacular burst and finished 3 seconds in front (net).

Lee placed 1st in his division (out of 15). Ran about a minute slower this year than last but it's hard to beat being fastest in the division.

This race is famous for the killer hill that lasts about .8 miles (400 foot climb) that starts a mile 2.

Sri treated Lee and Brent to beer and an awesome home cooked fish and pasta lunch after.

The Brickyarders were well represented today in Guilford at the 10 miler. Brent did a 1:22 (8:16 pace) and Lee did a 1:33 (9:20 pace) (1st in division (only 1 other guy)). Barbara ran the 10 miler too (which is way more than she normally does). Her time was 1:47 (3rd in division).

Ocean Beach 11.6

Lee (shirtless) ran 1:39 today and Amby Burfoot (bib 17) ran 1:41. Many years ago, Lee ran the same race (Ocean Beach) and was ahead of EVERYBODY (including Amby) for the first 10 seconds of the race. His moment of fame.

Lee's friend Wanda Hodsen and her friend Michelle Bosco and he crossed pretty much simultaneously.
