14.64

I could be off by (wait, let me check ...) OK, 14.64 miles is correct. Saturday saw Frances (w/ an "e," this is important and I'm sure she knows what I'm talking about), Kelsey, Tray, Lee, Rose, Lani, Mary, Linda (I think that's it) showing up ridiculously early to run Highcrest. Per usual, we all ended up running in groups that changed a few times.

The road was fairly clear (but Lee managed to fall anyway), the air was cold, but not unbearably and spirits were high. Frances (March 20, Atlanta Marathon - same day as O'Hartford 5K) paired off w/ Kelsey eventually. It was great to meet her and hope she can rejoin us in future runs.

Mary and Lee ran together for a bit and then she joined Lani then did some warm car time w/ Linda. Mary's getting advice from several Brickyarders about pacing yourself and the OKness of walking. Hey, if Jeff Galloway says walk / run is the secret, it's *got* to be smart.

At the end of the run, Team Lee/Linda/Kelsey/Lani/Rose showed *eggzackly* how one gets an ailing car to start. Who needs Triple A?

See you all next Saturday.

Lee

  1. Hey all -

Frances and I ran almost the same distance, just about 14.7, minus the fall. I was happy to run that far! It's been a while for me - we were going at just about 9:00 miles. I've started thinking about next year and the possibility of having a winter series race around Highcrest. Any ideas on what distance we would want?

Get ready for a warm week!

  2. Hi All, thanks for the post Lee. It was great to see everyone this weekend, and especially great to welcome Frances into the group! I think I had a chance to run with everyone this time around, and thanks to Rose who rescued me when I was hopelessly lost, I actually made it back. It was very inspiring to hear about everyone's plans for the upcoming year in running. I think the weekend of 3/20 I'll probably go to the Shamrock Run in Bristol instead of O'Hartford, it's a much prettier course. And as for Kelsey's idea on the winter series race, I'm all for it.
Thanks to those who stayed around to help me with my car...I have figured out the problem, it was me: my hands get really cold when I run in this weather and often I cannot move my thumb, which was the case yesterday. So I think I really did not turn the key as I could not grip it, but thought I did so ended up flooding the engine...and gave the AAA guy his laugh for day.
Stay safe everyone, and see you next week!

  3. Hey, wait a minute - I thought you, Lee, Linda, Kelsey, and Rose got your car running. Obviously, that's Lee's sarcasm. Thank goodness for AAA. I don't get the "eggzackly" reference - is it one of those things where you just had to be there?

  4. Well, I'm kinda disappointed in myself. My spelling of "eggzakly" was off by a letter. Clearly I must restudy the currently 1538 words in the ever-popular Toby Speak dranzlador.

I usually carry a copy of the dishunary whenever I travel but I've been too focused on Colchester of late and short long vs real long training runs.

  5. Is that supposed to answer my question? Yikes. And what the heck is my cat doing on that Toby Speak thing? :)

  6. I've never been known to give direct answers.

As for your cat, all good cats know and love Toby Speak which, it is well-documented, is the "only language your cat will ever need" so they could very well have opted in.

But, to paraphrase a runner friend of mine, less Toby talking, more running.
