Schaivone, Augustine
Augustine Schaivone (aka Augie, Gus, Pope) born in New Haven, Ct on May 17, 1924. He was raised in New Haven with his two brothers (Nick and Larry) and two sisters (Rose and Annette) by their mother Carmella.
He served in the US Navy and in 1945 he began his first career in the construction industry as an artisan tile setter. In 1949, while jitterbugging at the Pleasure Beach Ballroom he met Angelina and they married in 1950. Augie began his next career with the Fairfield School system in 1958 and retired 20 years later as Head Custodian at Roger Ludlowe High School. Never the one to actually "retire" Gus worked as Facilities Supervisor for MCA Corporation of Westport until 1986.
In 1991 after a nationwide search, Augie was appointed Vice President and Transportation Director of M.S. Running Productions at the age of 66. He excelled in this position, contributing to the health and smiles of thousands of runners until his official retirement at age 83. Augie never retired from entertaining the people around him. His quick wit and gift for jokes and tales filled with puns will live on in hearts and minds.
He is survived by his wife Angelina of Fairfield, his son Martin Schaivone and daughter-in-law Sherry Duff of Stratford, Ct, his daughter Kathryn Schaivone, her husband Jeffrey Bork of Baltimore, MD and cherished grandson Andrew Bork of Minneapolis. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bridgeport Hospital and DaVita of Fairfield, for their care. A special note of gratitude to Ludlowe Center for Health and Rehabilitation for their dedication to Augie.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Bridgeport Hospital Foundation, MADD of CT, or St Ann's Church of Bridgeport. Funeral service will be held on Thursday August 21st at 10am at St Ann's Church, 481 Brewster Street, Bridgeport, CT 06605.
