I get it. There are actually 8 lines in each section (the last pair of lines simply show what the whole sentence is). These 8 lines, which are really 4 phrases, each of which is echoed, are themselves sung twice (echoed). Thus the need for 8 times 2 which equals 16 phrases in the music clip. I knew this would make sense eventually.
