Race in the Park

It was a beautiful day at Walnut Park; the predicted rain never materialized. Lee ran 22:38, placing 2nd in age. Rose ran 27:12, placing 3rd. Only 14 seconds behind her, Judi finished 6th. Other runners we saw included Bekkie Wright, Joe Poloquin, Brent Stratton, Jeannette Cyr (placed, probably 1st, at age 76), Tom Walsh (who crossed w/ Lee), Jerry Augustine, Chris Chisholm, Sue Leslie.

Lee ran both races but never did hook up w/ Rose and Judi. It was a crowded field; way more women ran in their race than men in theirs. Judi and Rose climbed the barrier to get onto the course while Lee entered the course from the back. He spent the whole race trying to find them. Anyway, they ran well!

  1. Hello Brickyarders! Nice posts today by Barbara, Tracy, and Lee. Welcome back Judi, and congratulations to our Race in the Park runners who clocked some pretty awesome times and brought home some hardware again.

Mary and I are planning on running at the Brickyard in the morning, and hope to RUN into Dave and Barbara. Well, I hope to be running...today's cycling workout was all about "burning your matches". Yup they're burned, and after an hour of tempo swimming later in the afternoon I'm about done...can barely walk...they don't call it the ironman shuffle for nothin'.

Registered this week for Honululu (Dec. 11), so I really hope to live through Ironman...the only think I'm not so sure about is buying a round trip ticket for that trip- I think one way would do just fine!

Good luck to everyone next week: Newington Library 5K and Avon 5k.

PS to Lee, Peter & I hope you have fun on your new C-dale!

  2. Congratulations everyone! Your race times were terrific! I really feel like I'm part of an elite group here. Now besides a trophy, I need a running plaque!

  3. day so far ... up early (turned in @ about 8:30 last night) ... ran to Price Chopper (open 24 hrs) to get wheat germ for Linda's granola ... Linda off to Mamma Rose's for M Day celeb ... off to Brickyard to join Lani, Mary, Dave and Barbara ... new "racing flats" adjusted so left shoe doesn't hurt by wearing no socks and loosening lacing (say that fast a few times if into twisting tongue) ... went 8 miles ... joined Mary and Lani at DD for coffee and bfast sandwich ... Dave gave me 5k training advice ... "if you want to sub 22, run at most 6 1/4s on track on Thurs, take F and S off then, on race day, run 1st mile sub 7, 2nd maintain, 3rd do your best to maintain and on the downhill stretch, cook and finish strong."

  4. My day so far...boys aggravated and stressed me until I transformed into Mama Hulk. Happy Mother's Day - not so much. Went out to lunch (will also be my dinner) with family and ate too much to even think about. Going out now for a run, probably 6 miles but since everyone else did 8, maybe I will do that too.

Dave's advice sounds smart and effective. I will definitely try it. Lee, you will probably have a hard time taking 2 days off in a row but you should really try it as an experiment to see how the strategy works for you.

    Have a great week everybody!

  5. Breaking News from Active.com:

This just in, after a 2.5 year absence from running, Peter has registered for the Newington Library 5K. Sources say he finally gave in to the relentless begging from his wife, so persistant it could eventually drive anyone from the couch to 5K...

In other news, great to see all the Brickyarders out this morning.

And of course, Happy Mothers Day to the Moms among us.
